An interview with a first-generation host

March 19, 2026 · NGNA Team

She'd never led a group of anything before this, not at church, not at work. "I said yes mostly because I was asked directly, and it felt rude to say no," she laughed.

The first few months were rough. Attendance was inconsistent, and she wasn't sure the conversations were going anywhere. Then, without her planning it, two people from the group asked if they could start something similar with their own friends.

"I didn't teach them how. They just watched what we did for a few months and figured they could try it themselves," she said. That's now happened three times.

Asked what she'd tell someone just starting, she didn't hesitate: "Don't wait until you feel ready. Nobody in my group would tell you I looked ready. I just kept showing up."
