Why we stopped counting attendance

April 3, 2026 · NGNA Team

For a long time, the first question in any check-in was how many people came this week. It's an easy number to report and an easy one to feel good or bad about.

The trouble is that attendance told us almost nothing about whether a group was actually forming disciples who could go make more disciples. A group could hold steady at fifteen people for two years and never produce a single new leader.

We switched the primary question to something slower to answer: who in this group could lead their own group tomorrow if they had to? It's harder to track and less satisfying to report, but it's a far more honest measure of whether anything is actually multiplying.

Attendance still gets recorded. It's just no longer the headline.
